NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. – Structural work on a controversial 413-foot wind turbine in a residential development call North Kingstown Green, off Ten Rod Road, was completed Thursday.

Developer Mark DePasquale of Wind Energy Development LLC, who lives at North Kingstown Green, said the work started Sunday, with the blades installed Thursday afternoon. DePasquale said the turbine will be operational in early December.

He said 18 families live at North Kingstown Green, which is planned for 30 families. Residents will receive about $150 a month in return for having the turbine in the development.

Wind turbines are a contentious issue in North Kingstown. A similar turbine DePasquale proposed for Stamp Farm, off Route 2, has been stopped in the face of community protests.
