Crown Estate need to reveal monies lifted from Irish seabed

Sinn Féin | October 17, 2012 | www.sinnfein.ie

Sinn Féin MLA Oliver McMullan has said that it is unacceptable that the Crown Estate will not disclose the revenues lifted from wind farms and tidal energy projects around the North.

Mr. McMullan said,

“I asked the Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Development Arlene Foster how much revenue was lifted by the Crown Estate from companies operating along the Irish seaboard.

“In a written answer I was told that the Minister is not privy to this information so I contacted the Crown Estate directly.  I was again told that this money would not be disclosed.

“This is unacceptable that the Crown Estate can remove undisclosed amounts of money generated from within our local seabed out off the local economy.  At a time when the block grant is being cut we need to ensure that all monies raised within the North is maintained and invested within the North.

“I am calling on the Minister to take action in order to secure all revenues created within the sea beds along our coast to be transferred directly into the Executive so that it can be used for the betterment of all the citizens here.”
