A proposed wind farm in Cattaraugus County has received a setback.
The company behind the Allegany Wind Project sought to change its wind-turbine models, but was rebuffed by the Town of Allegany’s Planning Board, according to the Olean Times Herald.
Allegany Wind LLC had filed a request to switch from Nordex to Siemens turbines. The latter have larger rotors.
“A change in turbine models represents a change in conditions since the initial approvals were granted,” said Frank DeFiore, the chairman of the planning board.
An attorney for the company said it had been “pushed into a surprising situation.”
The proposed Allegany Wind Project, if approved, would involve the construction of 29 turbines on a 5,000-acre site.
