No quorum, no decision on wind turbines

Guam – The University of Guam’s Center for Island Sustainability will have to wait another two weeks to learn if its zone variance request for its wind turbine project is approved. The Guam Land Use Commission failed to meet quorum for today’s board meeting.

UOG’s revised zone variance request proposes that instead of installing two wind turbine towers, it would only install a smaller 70-foot tower. The initial request was opposed by many Mangilao residents who lived near the proposed site. The university has stated they feel the wind turbine would assist with research and data collection on how effective systems like these would be for the island. The GLUC heard testimony on the proposal during its meeting lat month.

The GLUC will meet on October 25.
