Transmission line builder in Oklahoma starts public meetings

Clean Line Energy Partners LP, which is building an 800-mile transmission line from Oklahoma wind farms to Tennessee, began meeting with residents and landowners this week to discuss route issues surrounding the $3.5 billion project.

The first meeting was Tuesday in the Panhandle communities of Guymon and Beaver. The series of public meetings will begin in western Oklahoma and move to Bristow, Okmulgee, Muskogee and Sallisaw by next week.

The Plains and Eastern Clean Line project will build a 500-kilovolt, direct-current system from the wind farms to connect with Tennessee Valley Authority substations. Construction should begin by 2015 and be completed within two years, according to reports.

Houston-based Clean Line Energy was granted utility status in Oklahoma last year and is making similar applications in Arkansas and Tennessee.

Upcoming eastern Oklahoma meetings: 7-9 a.m. Friday in Bristow at the Elks Lodge; 5-7 p.m. Monday in Okmulgee at the Okmulgee County Fairgrounds; 7-9 a.m. Tuesday at the Muskogee Civic Center; and 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in Sallisaw at the Indian Capital Technology Center.

Clean Line met with prospective subcontractors across the state two months ago. The project already has hired Pelco Structural LLC, of Claremore, to supply the support poles in a deal valued at around $300 million, according to reports.
