Gayton turbine opposition group hold latest protest

A group set up in opposition to a proposed wind turbine development between four marsh villages have held their latest demonstration.

NOWAG (No Wind Farm at Gayton) are firmly against Energie Kontor’s plans for eight 115m high turbines on farmland between Great Carlton, Saltfleetby, Theddlethorpe All-Saints and Gayton le Marsh.

East Lindsey District Council opposed the plans in July but the developer, unhappy with the council’s delay in taking the matter to committee, successfully appealed for a national planning inspector to make the decision leaving the council to act effectively as consultees.

A 50-strong group held a walk along the area where the wind farm is planned on Sunday, as well as flying a specially made blimp at the height of the proposed turbines.

Group spokesman Melvin Grosvenor said: “The walk was a great success with people coming together to take the opportunity to enjoy the open unspoilt tranquil countryside, along Two Mile Bank.

“The weather was glorious with stunning clear uninterrupted views towards the Lincolnshire Wolds. Sadly there will fewer and fewer days available if the turbines are given approval by the Government Inspector.

“The walk clearly demonstrated that Two Mile Bank is cherished by locals and visitors to this area and it is perverse that one landowner and a German company is prepared

to industrialise this countryside. The general opinion was on of absolute shock when the true height of the turbines was revealed by flying the blimp at the blade tip height.

These turbines will devastate character of the whole area.”

Energie Kontor argue that the turbines are required for creating green energy, and that 9,000 homes would be powered by the development.

The final decision has been delegated by the Secretary of State to a planning inspector, who will give a verdict in the next few months.
