Turbine saga rumbles on as challenge in court brought

A legal challenge has been brought by objectors against a wind turbine in north Suffolk.

The turbine at Palgrave Community Centre has been a long-running issue in the village, and despite a noise issue being addressed and plans being formed to move the turbine by the applicants, a group of residents who live nearby are still not satisfied.

As a result, Mid Suffolk District Council, which was poised to give the community centre volunteers the green light to move the turbine to the location originally specified when planning permission was given, is now going to hold off until at least Monday so it can look into the objectors’ legal challenge.

John Kilgannon, of the community centre, said the centre volunteers accept that an error was made in the original siting of the turbine, but they are more than willing to move the turbine by the seven metres required as soon as Mid Suffolk District Council – the planning authority – gives them the go-ahead.

The turbine, constructed at the community centre last September, was replaced in April by a different model after complaints about noise.

If it is moved the proposed seven metres, the turbine will still be between 120 and 140 metres away from the nearest homes.

Mr Kilgannon said the turbine contributes thousands of pounds towards the running of the community centre, which costs the volunteers £20,000 a year to open.

Nobody from the oppoents group was available for comment.
