BAKER CITY – A commercial truck trailer transporting a wind turbine base hit an embankment and crashed into the Burnt River on Interstate 84 just east of Baker City Saturday, police said.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., a truck hauling the wind turbine base driven by 35-year-old Brian Napier entered a left sweeping corner going about 50 mph eastbound on I-84, said Lt. Mark Duncan with Oregon State Police.

The trailer struck the guardrail, damaging about 100 feet of railing before hitting the bridge and going over the embankment into the river, Duncan said.

A small fire started in the grass, but firefighters put it out.

Napier was not injured and he was wearing a seat belt. He was cited for failing to drive within a lane.
