The Bruce County Federation of Agriculture are now voicing their concerns over wind turbines, and say they will no longer support the Green Energy Act.

At a meeting in September – the Board of Directors decided that while they were in favour of Green Energy the negatives out way the benefits.

President John Gillespie notes they aren’t saying they’re forever against wind turbines, they just want to pause and take time to deal with some concerns.

Gillespie says they heard from both sides; land owners leasing space and those experiencing negative health impacts.

The President says he realizes it’s a tough fight against the government and all they can really do is talk to current land owners.

He says they will educate land owners who haven’t yet signed up to host a wind turbine and make sure they fully understand the process.

Gillespie also notes that at first the impression was that Green Energy would be good for the farmer, decreasing costs and simplifying the process.

However, he says that has not been the case and the only people benefiting are those making money off hosting a wind turbine.

Gillespie adds that concerns over health impacts along with other issues have yet to be addressed by the government, and they want to wait until Health Canada’s study is complete before moving forward.
