Wind turbine plan blown out over local concerns

BY DAVID MCKAY | The Press and Journal | 28 September 2012

Plans to erect a wind turbine on a disused landfill site on the outskirts of Aberdeen were rejected by city councillors yesterday.

Waste management firm FCC Environment applied for permission for the 91ft structure at Tarbothill, off the Aberdeen to Balmedie stretch of the A90 at Blackdog.

Members of the local authority’s development management sub-committee unanimously backed a recommendation from officials to block the bid.

A report by head of planning Margaret Bochel said 11 letters of objection were lodged by local residents.

Members of Belhelvie Community Council, which covers an area close to the city boundary, also voiced opposition to the scheme.

Among the concerns raised were that the development would have an adverse visual impact, and could have implications for Ministry of Defence (MoD) radar systems.
