Severn Trent gets go-ahead to build 132-metre wind turbines

Two wind turbines have been given the go-ahead to be built in Spondon by city planners.

Severn Trent Water put forward an application to build the 132-metre high structures at the Derby Sewage Treatment Works, in Megaloughton Lane.

And last night, the plans were approved by Derby City Council’s planning control committee.

It was the second time the authority had discussed the wind turbines proposal.

In May 2011, a decision on the original planning application was deferred after East Midlands Airport expressed concerns about the blades causing interference with radar.

As a result, Severn Trent was able to discuss the matter with airport officials.

Their objections have since been removed, paving the way for the resubmitted application to be given the green light.

The plans also include an access track, control building and a temporary site compound.
