UOG presents revised request to GLUC

After taking into consideration concerns from nearby residents, the University of Guam appeared before the Guam Land Use Commission with a revised request for a zone variance for the Center for Island Sustainability’s wind turbine project. Instead of installing two wind turbine towers, UOG plans to install a smaller 70′ tower.

UOG Green Army president Sheena Jose testified the proposal benefits the school, community and the island’s economy. “This wind turbine can also determine the feasibility for island communities,” she explained. “With the wind turbine in place, we can know exactly how effective these systems will be for our island. Through research and data collection, we can determine the actual power produced and the overall feasibility of a wind turbine in an island setting.”

The GLUC did not act on the request, but rather tabled further discussion for their next meeting on October 11 to allow for more time to do research and address other legal concerns over zoning issues.
