Giant weather mast set for Carrick

Sep 28 2012 by Stuart Wilson, Ayrshire Post | www.ayrshirepost.net

Nobody wants to come here anymore.

So say the fed-up people of Carrick, who insist their rural surroundings are being swamped by wind turbines.

And a new plan to erect a 40 metre weather mast – set for the green light next week – has sparked even more fury.

Opponents say it’s just the latest move in the energy war which is threatening to ruin the area’s beauty spots.

South Ayrshire councillors are now being begged to slam the door shut on the number of wind energy applications.

But their planning officers have recommended they approve the bid by E-Gen Ltd, at Pinmore Mains Farm.

The attempt to record weather conditions near the tiny village is seen as a pre-cursor to another wind energy application.

The mast, to be in place for a limited period of three years, will be supported by guy wires and illuminated for aircraft safety.

The council’s planning regulatory panel meets on Thursday, October 4.
