Brock to host forum on wind

WEST RUTLAND – Republican gubernatorial candidate Sen. Randy Brock will discuss industrial wind in the state at a public forum Wednesday night at the West Rutland High School.
Brock said he decided to host the forum – or town hall as he is calling it – to listen to questions and concerns regarding industrial wind projects in Vermont. A topic, he said, is a concern for many people.
“It’s a topic that is current,” Brock said. “It’s a topic that I have spoke to a lot of people about around Vermont.”
He wants the forum to be a time for residents to discuss wind – its impacts, its affects to the community and the environment and what Vermonters want to see happen.
“It’s more to listen and ask questions,” Brock said. “I want to hear what people have to say.”
He added, “Based on what I have seen and heard, I have several questions.”
Brock said he wants to know if the process of approving wind projects in Vermont is working properly. He also said he questions whether the guidelines the Legislature has given the Public Service Board are adequate for such projects.
“I have concerns about the economics of industrial wind,” Brock said. “Is the ratepayer getting good rates with wind.”
Brock said West Rutland was an appropriate location for the public forum as four towns in Rutland County, including West Rutland, are being considered for a 20-turbine wind farm on the ridgeline.
He said although the forum will focus mainly on wind projects in Vermont, he is open to broaden the discussion to other renewable energy sources and projects including solar and biomass.
The public forum will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at West Rutland High School, located at 713 Main St., across the street from the town hall.
