Seymour residents fight wind blow

A proposed wind farm could have health and environmental impacts on the community, a group of Seymour residents fears.

Residents near the proposed Cherry Tree wind farm, at Trawool, say even though the application complies with tough planning laws and is 2km from the nearest home, it is still too close to residential land.

“The surrounding landowners support renewable energy, however they feel this development is too close to settlement,” Sutton Waugh said.

“The main reason for wanting to move these developments further away from people is health concerns.” There are also concerns about what the proposed turbines would do to the aesthetics of the landscape and environmental concerns about the site being home to some wedgetail eagles.

Infigen Energy senior development and government affairs manager Jonathan Upson said studies had proved there were no health impacts from wind turbines.

“The Victorian Department of Health and the NSW Department of Health have stated on the record that there are no health impacts from wind turbines,” Mr Upson said.

The National Health and Medical Research Council is studying any health impacts.
