Should Coos Bay allow wind turbines?

The World | theworldlink.com

COOS BAY – The City of Coos Bay invites the public – not just Coos Bay residents – to complete an online survey about wind turbines in the city.

The survey is at www.coosbay.org.

Survey respondents can indicate whether the city should allow the structures at all and weigh in on any height restrictions they’d like to see and any locations where they think turbines should be prohibited.

In 2010, the city placed a moratorium on the construction of wind energy systems so it could develop an ordinance to regulate them. Though the city’s planning commission has hosted some meetings on the subject since then, planning administrator Laura Barron said other projects pushed the process to a back burner, so the information-gathering process is still in its early stages.

The planning commission will hold a public work session on the subject Oct. 9, but the time and place have yet to be determined.

For more information contact Barron at lbarron@coosbay.org.
