Voters in the tiny town of Newark have given a big no to wind power.
Newark is one of four Northeast Kingdom towns where Seneca Mountain Wind wants to erect 35 wind towers. That prompted a special town meeting Monday night at which residents vote 169-59 for a new town plan that seeks to protect ridgelines, and specifically asserts that commercial wind projects are not appropriate.
Last month, Seneca officials said they would honor the wishes of communities, but only after being given a chance to present details of its proposal.
