Apex Wind Energy is teaming up with Atlantic Power to build the largest wind farm in Oklahoma to date, with 131 turbines planned. This project, called Canadian Hills, has several advantages that make it competitive, said Mike Ming, state secretary of energy. But the transmission lines are close to Darlington School, a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade facility north of El Reno. The 240 students are all low-income and 85 percent are minorities, said Superintendent Jimmie Smith. He said he’s concerned that the lines are only 65 feet from his school.
