N.Y. firm looks to add plant near Hermiston

HERMISTON – An energy developer has proposed a power plant at Hermiston designed to ramp up when the breezes die down and the region’s burgeoning wind turbine generators go slack.

The East Oregonian reported that New York-based Perennial Power Holdings wants to put the plant near another generating plant it owns in Hermiston. It would be fired by natural gas.

Company officials say the plant would produce up to 412 megawatts and be designed to increase or decrease its output quickly.

They say that would help stabilize the region’s power grid by matching electricity supplies with demand.
