Over 100 villagers attend wind farm exhibition in Olveston

More than 100 villagers attended an exhibition detailing plans for three 126-metre wind turbines in Olveston.

The display highlighted the latest developments in REG Windpower’s proposed wind farm near Ingst, by the M48.

As well as outlining where the turbines would stand, their exact height and scale and green benefits, REG Windpower also presented the results of various wildlife and flood risk surveys carried out on the site.

A REG spokesman told the Gazette that the event on Saturday was a step forward.

He said: “The exhibition was very well attended. There were a lot of useful discussions taking place. We appreciate that there are still some concerns that people have about the proposal.

“We will seek to answer them when we submit the application to the council in due course.”

Campaigners from Olveston Wind Farm Action Group, who categorically object to the project, turned up en masse to the event, and even held a stall outside Olveston Parish Hall.

Chairman Claire Barnard, from Elberton, said the group took a exit poll which revealed that around 90 per cent of the people in attendance were against a wind farm development in the area.

She said: “There were a handful for, including the landowners, and some unsure but overall the massive majority were against. 91 per cent were against the proposed development five per cent were for the proposed development and four per cent were undecided.”
