Allegany: No action taken on wind farm changes…protestors picket

regionalnewsnetwork.blogspot.com 11 September 2012

The Allegany Planning Board took no action Monday on a request to make changes in a proposed windfarm. EverPower Wind is the development company. They have asked for approval to change the type of turbine to be used for the 29-turbine farm. The Board said it had just received the request and would need time to review and investigate. Prior to the meeting, a large group of protestors picketed outside. The wind farm debate has been highly controversial in and around Allegany.
Meanwhile, tempers flared a bit later in the meeting. A lawsuit brought by concerned citizens against EverPower was formally dismissed on September 6. Construction was supposed to have already started but EverPower postponed until the suit was resolved. With the suit in the rear-view mirror, EverPower is now obligated to pay the Town of Allegany $500,000 by September 16. However, an attorney for EverPower refused any comment when questioned about the payment.
