Richfield must act for sake of people

After seeing numerous news stories regarding the plight of some residents in the Town of Fairfield tormented by the noise from wind turbines near their homes and hearing from three Pennsylvania gas lease holders who discussed polluted water and negative health effects they attribute to hydrofracking, I ask why some members of the Richfield town board are dragging their feet on passing a moratorium on all heavy industrial use within the town?
By failing to act, the board has put the town in the hands of developers and the state government who I and many others believe want to turn upstate New York into an industrial dumping ground. This is being done because of the intense lobbying and generous campaign contributions by the wind and natural gas industries who stand to make millions from these potentially damaging projects.
The town board’s first consideration must be the protection of its citizens, and the best way to do that is to first enact a moratorium and then craft a wind law, a land use law and an updated comprehensive plan that reflects the will of the people.
To do nothing is not an option.
