Windfarm is delayed by High Court battle

Work to build a controversial windfarm between the villages of Helmdon, Greatworth and Sulgrave has been delayed after a High Court battle was launched against the development.

In July this year Broadview Energy won an appeal to overturn South Northamptonshire Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for five wind turbines on agricultural land.

However the matter has now been brought before the High Court after the council and a village resident challenged the outcome on a point of law relating to whether the planning inspectorate correctly followed planning policies when reaching a decision. Jeffrey Corrigan, managing director of Broadview Energy, said the company was disappointed with the latest delay in the planning process.

He said: “The planning inspectorate’s decision followed a public inquiry that lasted seven days and considered a significant amount of evidence from those for and against the project.

“We have always maintained that Spring Farm Ridge is an excellent location for a wind farm and this was evidenced by the planning inspectorate’s decision.

“A resident and the council are now challenging the decision on points of law.

“While we are confident of the outcome, the challenge will create delays and uncertainty along with significant costs for all parties.”
