Wind turbine plan facing more opposition.

Grey Highlands has fired off a letter to Ontario Environment Minister Jim Bradley, asking him to deny the approval of wind turbines near Lake Eugenia.

Mayor Wayne Fitzgerald signed the letter which outlines why the municipality wants the plan from Flesherston Wind Energy Incorporated, halted.

Fitzgerald says it may be only 4 turbines that are proposed but they are massive.

The company claims they would have a minimal impact on the views in the area, but the Mayor says the 500 foot high turbines will have a major impact on the environment.

Under the Green Energy Act, municipalities have little options open to preventing development of wind energy, but Fitzgerald is hopeful the province will listen.

Meanwhile, Virginia Stewart Love is urging Grey Highlands to push the province into investigating health issues that she, and several residents say are caused by existing turbines.

Love says her health issues started after 11 wind turbines were built along County road 2 south of Maxwell.

Mayor Fitzgerald says they have already been down this road and although he appreciates the feedback, there is little the municipality can do.

Health Canada recently announced a 2 year study on the impact wind turbines have on residents, but the province continues to approve new projects.
