Anti-wind farm campaigner will stand in by-election

A journalist who campaigns against wind farms has announced he is to stand in the Corby and East Northants by-election.

Journalist and author James Delingpole will stand as an independent campaigning on an anti-renewable energy ticket.

Although the constituency does not have any wind farms, a proposal for Barnwell Manor which is within a mile of Lyveden New Bield was granted permission at an appeal in May.

East Northamptonshire Council, the National Trust and English Heritage are appealing against that decision and it will be heard at the High Court in December.

Mr Delingpole claims there has been no global warming since 1988.

According to political commentator Guido Fawkes, writing in his column in Spectator magazine, Mr Delingpole said: “The stench from the wind industry and its many leech-like hangers-on is overpowering and it’s a disgrace that so few people are speaking up for the thousands of victims affected by it.

“But I am. I hereby announce my intention to stand in the Corby by-election as the anti-wind farm candidate.

“Not in my back yard. And not in yours either!”

The other candidates who have announced their intention to run in the local election represent Labour, the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats, UKIP, the English Democrats, the Monster Raving Loony Party, the Young People’s Party, Cannabis Law Reform, the United People’s Party and a second independent standing against austerity cuts.
