Turbine takes a tumble

AAP | www.themercury.com.au 4 September 2012

Part of a wind turbine tower weighing several tonnes has fallen off the back of a truck in Tasmania en route to a new wind farm.

The turbine tower was bound for the Musselroe wind farm, in the state’s northeast.

Hydro Tasmania says the tower section slid down an embankment after falling from the truck about 4am today. Nobody was injured.

Police investigations are continuing into the cause of the incident.

The towers are made from three parts, ranging from 24m to 29m in length and weighing between 28 tonnes and 76 tonnes.

The Musselroe wind farm will comprise 56 towers when it is completed.
