Seneca Mountain Wind Agrees to Abide by Town Votes
Asks Communities to Decide Once Project Proposal is Clear

Northeast Kingdom, VT – Seneca Mountain Wind recently sent letters to the Select Boards in Newark and Brighton and the Board of Governors for the Unified Towns and Gores of Essex County clarifying that the developer will respect the official position of the community as to whether they are willing to host a wind power project, once an actual project has been proposed.

At this time, the company has only applied for a Certificate of Public Good to locate four temporary meteorological towers in the area to gather data on the potential for wind power. The application is currently under consideration by the Vermont Public Service Board. This wind data will assist in finalizing any project layouts that would comprise the basis of a proposal to any host town.

In the letter to the towns, Jack Kenworthy, the Manager of Seneca Mountain Wind indicated, “…[Seneca Mountain Wind] is submitting this letter to this Board to demonstrate our willingness to commit to the outcome of a properly warned town-wide ballot vote, once a wind project has actually been proposed and the full accurate details discussed.” The letter goes on to say that Seneca Mountain Wind believes “It is in the interest of all parties –for or against – to allow for the full development of the facts.”

Seneca Mountain Wind, LLC is a Joint Venture between Portsmouth, NH based developer Eolian Renewable Energy, LLC and Nordex USA, Inc. a turbine manufacturer and project developer with more than 4,700 turbines operating in 38 countries. Initial estimates for the Seneca Mountain Wind Project suggest it could include as many as 35 turbines capable of providing enough clean, renewable energy to power approximately 45,000 homes.
