MP’s anti-windfarm petition grows

The Galloway Gazette | www.gallowaygazette.co.uk 30 August 2012

The petition started last week by MP Russell Brown to protest against the Scottish Goverment’s onshore and offshore windfarm policy in Dumfries and Galloway has now been signed by over 800 people.

Combining the number of people who have signed the petition on Russell Brown’s website and in his offices brings the total number of petition signatures so far to well over 800.

The Labour MP set up the petition because of increasing concern that the Scottish Government is forcing more and more wind farms onto Dumfries and Galloway, against the views of local people.

Mr Brown said: “For well over 800 people to sign my petition in just one week is an amazing response that shows how strongly people feel about wind farms in Dumfries and Galloway.

“Local people have spoken loud and clear and Alex Salmond better be listening. I have been inundated with emails and letters from local people pleased that someone is taking this fight to the Scottish Government. It is important we get as many people as possible to sign the petition, so I would encourage people to spread the word to friends and family.”

On September 7 the Scottish Government is holding a public event in the McMillan Hall, Newton Stewart, to provide information on offshore wind, wave and tidal energy in Scottish waters, and on the offshore renewables licensing manual. The event is open to all with officials on hand to answer questions. There will be a drop-in session from 1pm to 6pm and a presentation and discussion from 7pm to 9pm.
