Province approves county’s amendments to wind turbine bylaw

www.kingscountynews.ca 23 August 2012

Amendments to the Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use By-Law regarding large-scale wind turbines in the County of Kings have been approved by the Province. These amendments indicate that County of Kings Council wishes to take more time to review the issues surrounding large-scale wind turbines, and in the meantime not permit large-scale wind turbines anywhere in the Municipality.

The amendments will be in effect on the day the notice of passing appears in the local newspaper. The notice is scheduled to appear in The Kings County Register on Aug. 30. Previous regulations regarding large-scale wind turbines were adopted in 2011. Council chose to review the regulations after concerns were brought forward from the public.

Council will continue to work on new regulations that satisfy concerns that have been raised over the past several months.

At the regularly scheduled Council meeting on July 3, 2012 Municipal Council gave final approval to amendments regarding large-scale wind turbines.
