Turbines decision deferred after legal challenge

Melton Times | www.meltontimes.co.uk 22 August 2012

Proposals to erect two wind turbines in Thorpe Satchville still hang in the balance after a legal challenge from solicitors representing up-in-arms villagers.

Melton Council’s development committee had been due to decide on Thursday whether to permit the proposals for a 77m high turbine at Park Farm, to the north of the village, and a 46m high turbine on land at nearby Hall Farm. The farms, in Klondyke Lane, are almost opposite each other.

The ThorpeSayNo campaign group flew a blimp last Tuesday, coinciding with a councillors’ site visit, to show how tall the turbines would be.

Objectors have raised a raft of concerns including visual and noise impact, impact on residential properties and on local wildlife.

At Thursday’s meeting planning solicitors Marrons challenged aspects of the officer’s report.

Melton Council’s development committee has now deferred the applications until a special meeting of the committee on September 13.
