JAMESTOWN – A plan that has been in the works for years to install a wind turbine at Taylor Point is dead after the Town Council voted to stop a feasibility study for the project.
In a 4-to-1 vote Monday night, the council decided to withdraw an application for an additional $44,000 from the state Renewable Energy Fund that would have paid a consultant to finish an analysis of economic, permitting and technical issues surrounding the proposed town-owned turbine.
Council members voted to kill the project primarily because of continuing questions about whether the turbine would generate sufficient revenues to justify the risk of spending up to $6 million in taxpayer money to install it and connect it to the power grid.
