Concerns with Cherry Tree wind farm to be aired

A community meeting will be held next week to discuss concerns with the proposed $100million Cherry Tree wind farm project.

This follows a joint Infigen Energy/Mitchell Shire Council information session held in Seymour recently.

Nearby residents opposed to the project say they were told at that meeting by a council planner that it could ignore any health effects when making a decision on the project.

‘‘The local community has decided to get professional and independent advice to become more informed and educated,’’ a statement by the group calling the meeting said.

‘‘Health effects are paramount when these developments are erected in our community. The local community is encouraged to attend and educate thenselves on the potential impacts of this development and get (information) before our landscape and living enviroment are destroyed.’’

One recent project – the proposed Stony Gap wind farm near Burra in South Australia – was rejected by council due to health concerns. Project developer TRUenergy is appealing that decision.

The meeting will be at Trawool Valley Resort on August 29 at 6.30pm.

Speakers will include Steve Campbell, chief-of-staff to wind farm opponent Senator John Madigan, Samantha and Carl Stepnell, a couple who say they have been forced to leave their farm due to wind turbines, and Australian Environment Foundation’s executive director Max Rheese.
