Motions passed

USMAN AZAD | Kalgoorlie Miner | 17 August 2012

Four policy motions from the O’Connor division of the Liberal Party were passed at the weekend’s State conference, with a few minor alterations.

Two of the motions – to expand the Patient Assistance Travel Scheme for people seeking dental treatment and changes to environmental protection legislation – were passed unchanged.

The wording of another motion was changed to “provide more financial assistance” to parents in rural and regional areas affected by changes to the primary school leaving age in 2015.

The last motion now reads: “The Liberal Party of Australia (WA Division) asks that the WA State Government allow no commercial wind turbine to be situated within 3km of a neighbouring rural boundary or within 5km of a rural township boundary until further investigation and research establishes a distance that guards against adverse health impacts for residents of rural properties.”

However, the motions will not be automatically accepted as policy.

WA Liberal Party State director Ben Morton said they would be referred to the Parliamentary Party for review.
