Fledgling, is it?

The Pueblo Chieftain | www.chieftain.com 19 August 2012

According to U. S. Sen. Mark Udall, “Congress could pull the rug out from under our fledgling wind energy industry” unless we continue to subsidize it. That’s “fledgling” as in 49.8 billion watts listed on the nameplates of well over 30,000 giant industrial wind turbines in the US.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration, in an April 2008 report, indicated that federal tax breaks and subsidies during 2007 averaged $0.2337 per kilowatt hour of electricity produced by wind during 2007, although the EIA missed several costs. Let’s see: Spend 23 cents of tax money to produce a kilowatt-hour of electricity, and then turn around and sell that kilowatt-hour for about a dime.

We should all be so fledgling and so well-supported. Maybe I can get Udall to buy my bridge.
