Croft Bank wind farm plan criticised by opposition group

Early concerns have been raised regarding an application for a wind farm amid fears that planning details have ‘not fully been thought through’.

Opponents aruge the proposal for six wind turbines, each measuring a maximum of 100m to the tip of the blade, will be ‘too close to nearby homes’, cause ‘shadow flicker’ and ‘noise issues’.

Croft Windfarm Action Group chairman Melvin Grosvenor, said of REG Windpower’s plans: “I’ve had a look at the application and my initial assessment is there are gaps and some of the montages are incorrect. This creates an illusion and there needs to be further detail of the site.

“Also the size of the turbines will be an issue, as six will be crammed into a small space and lined up. They will be 534 metres from the property and this is an absolute disgrace. Even in the guidelines it says 700 metres separation – and the best practice is 800 metres.

Mr Grosvenor also fears the turbines will create flickering shadows which will be unbearable for nearby properties.

“The land owner and developers should be ashamed and it should be withdrawn immediately, as it will cause shadow flicker. It will be horrendous and constant for three months,” he added.

The proposed turbines will all be located to the south-east of the A52, around 1.2km from Croft and REG Windpower sayid the turbines will be capable of generating enough safe, clean renewable electricity to meet the equivalent annual needs of thousands of households.
