Batsworthy Cross planning inquiry to re-open

A public inquiry into proposals to build a wind farm at Batsworthy Cross will re-open next month.

Planning inspector Rupert Grantham has decided to re-open the inquiry to give further consideration to highway safety issues which could be caused by the wind farm, should it be built.

The original planning application for the development near Knowstone, South Molton, was originally refused planning permission by North Devon Council’s planning committee in June 2011.

The proposal, for nine 103m tall wind turbines, also includes plans for unit transformer enclosures, a substation building, anemometer, access tracks and ancillary equipment.

A planning application for the temporary erection of a 60m anemometer mast on the same site was also refused planning permission in December 2011.

The applicant appealed against the decision on both applications.

This meant a public inquiry was held at Bishops Nympton Parish Hall.

The inquiry opened on June 12 and closed on July 6 and will now re-open on September 20.

Members of the public will again be welcome at the inquiry, although only professional consultants will be invited to speak.
