Wind energy firm unveils plans for mast on fields near Highbridge

Credit:  www.burnham-on-sea.com 15 August 2012 ~~

A wind energy firm has submitted plans to build a 60-metre tall weather monitoring mast on fields near Highbridge, which is the usually the first step before formal wind farm proposals are unveiled.

Gaoh Energy has applied for permission from Sedgemoor District Council to install the temporary wind monitoring mast in Alstone.

“This assessment is being undertaken to determine whether the general area displays a suitable wind resource for any potential future wind energy proposals,” says the firm.

It’s proposed that the temporary meteorological mast, from NexGen, will be used to collect meteorological data at the site for a period of 24 months.

“The proposed mast location was chosen as it is located away from residential dwellings – the closest being 555m,” adds Gaoh Energy.

“The landscape is exposed and open which will allow for the accurate measuring of the wind resource flowing over the site.”

Residents can submit their comments to Sedgemoor District Council’s planning department until September 14th.
