Province wants more details on Lingan wind farm proposal

A proposed expansion of Sprott Power’s Lingan wind farm has hit another roadblock.

Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau has ruled that he needs more information before deciding whether to issue permits for the project.

“It was determined that additional information is required with respect to turbine placement and the effects of shadow flicker,” Belliveau said in a letter made public Tuesday.

The company has one year to file the additional information, the letter said. After that, the minister has an additional 50 days to make a decision.

However, Belliveau also asks Sprott Power to clarify the project’s status, given that it wasn’t awarded a contract by the province’s renewable electricity administrator.

The independent administrator, Massachusetts consultant Power Advisory LLP, recently gave the green light to three wind farms in Lunenburg and Guysborough counties instead.

Sprott Power officials couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday.
