An East Lancashire wind farm, the largest of its kind in mainland Britain, has been sold by its developers.

Peel Energy and HgCapital have offloaded Scout Moor wind farm, in Rossendale, to German reinsurer Munich Re.

The deal is part of an investment programme in renewable energy and new technologies, and includes two other sites.

Occupying 1,347 acres of open moorland between Edenfield, Rawtenstall, and Rochdale, the 65MW farm was owned as a joint venture between Peel Energy and HgCapital.

The other sites in the deal are Tin Mostyn wind park, North Wales, and Bagmoor, Lincolnshire.

Munich Re said the total investment was in the ‘low three digit euro millions’, and is part of a programme which aims to invest £1.9billion in total.
