Crane intended to build Union Beach wind turbine coming down

By Jen Connic / Website Staff | www.nj.com 15 August 2012

A crane at the Bayshore Regional Sewerage Authority that was intended to build a wind turbine in Union Beach will be disassembled, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.

The crane was rented in anticipation of the construction, but it has sat idle for about a month. An appellate court panel ruled last week the Union Beach Planning Board needs to approve the plan for the wind turbine before the authority can install and operate it.

Authority executive director Robert C. Fischer told the Asbury Park Press it seemed unlikely the plan would be approved in the next two months, so the crane rental will end.

The crane cost $65,000 to rent a month but with other expenses factored in, it was costing $150,000, according to the report.
