NOXEN TWP. – State police are looking for a man who allegedly shot a 58-year-old woman who was inside a car he ordered to leave the area of the Mehoopany Wind Farm.

The car was driving in the area of the wind farm, which spans 9,000 acres across Wyoming County, when it came upon a man driving a green ATV, state police said.

The man displayed a revolver and told the five people in the car to leave because they were trespassing, according to state police.

When the car drove away as the man had instructed he fired two shots at the car, the second hitting the shoulder of a 58-year-old woman from Clifford who was riding in the back seat, state police said.

State police did not identify the gunshot victim or any of the four other individuals in the car.

The victim was later flown to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center and remains there for observation, state police said.

Amanda Abbott, a spokeswoman for BP Wind Energy, which is constructing the wind farm in partnership with Sempra U.S. Gas & Power, said the company does not believe the project is connected with the shooting, though it did take place within the boundaries of the site.

The suspect is described as an approximately 50-year-old white man about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 150 to 170 pounds with wavy brown hair and a bushy brown beard.

Anyone with information is asked to call the state police at Tunkhannock at 836-2141.
