EverPower asks to tweak windmills; Allegany wind farm protest

ALLEGANY – Several residents once again picketed against an Allegany wind turbine farm project Monday, almost a year after they first carried signs in protest of the plan.

The picketing was staged by a couple dozen people who attended the Allegany Planning Board meeting to protest a request by EverPower Wind Holdings Inc. to increase the size of wind turbines to be built at the proposed project site.

During the meeting, held at the Allegany Senior Center, the planning board reviewed a proposed amendment to the zoning ordinance setting the maximum height of wind turbines from 492 feet to 497 feet. The board also reviewed a request from EverPower for a possible change in the wind turbine Nordex N100 model – presumably to the Nordex N117 model, which has larger rotors.

The written request was submitted by Ben Brazell of EverPower. Mr. Brazell told the planning board that EverPower is prepared to provide additional information on the new wind turbine model.
