Turbine resolution at Clearview council

By Catherine Thompson | www.bayshorebroadcasting.ca 13 August 2012

A proposed wind turbine development in Clearview Township is up for discussion at tonight’s (Mon) council meeting.

Councillors will consider recommendations in a report from the planning department.

The recommendations include council declaring it does not support the WPD proposal for 8 five hundred foot turbines at County Road 91 and Fairgrounds Road.

The recommendation further states that council request the province to not issue approval of the project.

The planning department also suggests in its report that council request the province to enact an immediate moratorium on further approvals of large scale wind energy developments, until the Health Canada study on health affects of living near wind turbines is completed and reviewed.

Council will also consider directing staff to start the process of getting a heritage landscape designation under the Ontario Heritage Act and draft a nuisance by-law to deal with potential annoyance impacts of wind turbines.

And council may consider directing the township treasurer to look at options for amending the development charges by-law to apply to industrial wind turbine and other green energy project construction.

Also at tonight’s meeting, council will discuss the Memorandum of Understanding to do with the possibility of a casino in the area.

Wasaga Beach, Collingwood and Springwater Township councils have all agreed to the MOU which states all 4 municipalities will work together during the process of looking into a 300 slot gaming facility.
