Questions surround Jamestown wind turbine proposal

By Alex Kuffner | Providence Journal | providencejournal.com 13 august 2012

Jamestown, R.I. – A proposal to put up a wind turbine at Taylor Point could be decided soon with the Town Council nearing a key vote on a project that has been years in the making.

The council is set to decide Aug. 20 whether to go ahead with a request for proposals from developers – or instead, perhaps, to kill the multi-million-dollar project.

“My position is that I don’t think the town should be in the wind energy business,” said council member William Murphy who believes other councilors share his opinion.

Although residents voted two years ago to fund the installation of a turbine, there are still questions about cost, payback and aesthetics.
