Opposition to wind farm

Two parish councils have voiced objection regarding a controversial wind farm proposal in Somerset.

Last week East Brent Parish Council voted unanimously against the plans put forward by Broadview Energy Ltd, which include building four wind turbines next to the M5, between the villages of Mark and Rooksbridge.

These proposals have now been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council for approval.

Residents crowded the village hall to hear the decision but no Broadview representatives attended.

Brent Knoll Parish Council has also held a meeting regarding the proposal, and also voted to oppose the idea.

Members of action group NoPilrow, who are lobbying against the plans, were present at the meetings and said they believed the high turnout showed how strongly residents feel about protecting the area.

David Maud, spokesman for NoPilrow, said: “We are delighted with the result and it shows that people really are opposed to the wind farm. This is another sign of recognition that this is what the residents want.”
