Objections to turbine

Credit:  Times & Star | www.timesandstar.co.uk 9 August 2012 ~~

Almost 30 people have objected to plans for a 261ft wind turbine in High Harrington.

An application for the turbine at Low Scar Farm was submitted to Allerdale council by David Reed.

The three-blade turbine would be erected in a field currently used for grazing.

The application said the turbine would help reduce financial overheads of the farm and reduce its carbon footprint.

But objectors claim it would be a dangerous distraction to road users, disturb wildlife and would have an impact on the landscape.

Kath and Alan Gregg, of Broadacres, said: “It is now almost impossible to take a walk in Allerdale, or indeed anywhere in the Lake District, without coming across these structures.

“At least one of these wind farms is visible from every fell top and they appear to be ‘breeding’.”

Cynthia McFarland, of Broadacres, said the distraction of a turbine of this size to drivers would be very dangerous.

Mr Reed declined to comment.
