Pro–wind farm lobby group collects signatures in Burnham-On-Sea

Yes To Wind, a lobby group funded by the wind energy industry, has been collecting signatures in Burnham-On-Sea as the debate over controversial plans to build a new wind farm outside the town heats up.

The group collected signatures from holidaymakers and shoppers in the High Street on Friday (August 3rd), as pictured.

It comes as energy firm Broadview wants to construct four 130-metre tall wind turbines on land at Pilrow Farm, south of Rooksbridge, near Burnham.

David Maund, from the No Pilrow campaign group, believes the signatures are being collected to support Broadview’s application despite much opposition from villagers in and around Rooksbridge.

Mr Maund told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “At this time of the year most people passing the Yes To Wind stall were holidaymakers but they were still asked to support the Pilrow Wind Farm.”

“When asked about the activity by a member of No Pilrow, ‘Jeff’, one of the professional activists, admitted that he and his colleagues were being paid by Broadview for their services.”

“Later the same day, East Brent Parish Council had a planning meeting to discuss the wind farm, which was full to overflowing with concerned residents, but no Broadview representative was present. The parish council voted unanimously to object to the wind farm.”

Mr Maund added: “Broadview or their agents are prepared to actively engage with visitors to the area yet appear to be unprepared to meet residents who will be affected by this proposal. We feel it shows a dismissive attitude towards residents.”
