Campaigners set to fight village wind turbine plan

E RIDING: Campaigners are set to battle plans for a large wind turbine in the centre of a picturesque village.

Farmer WD Sellers and Sons wants to install the 70m turbine on its land in the village of Rudston.

But concerns have been raised over the impact on the heritage and landscape of Rudston.

The village is home to the Rudston Monolith and South Riding writer Winifred Holtby was born at Rudston House.

Anti-wind turbine campaigner David Hinde has requested that English Heritage be consulted.

He said: “This application for the Rudston Turbine will loom over the centre of the village at Rudston and have intrusive visual impact on views from that Churchyard and Holtby’s Grave and from the Monolith.

“I can’t think of anything more inappropriate than the industrialisation of this ancient neolithic landscape.”

The farm lets out offices and the turbine will help power these along with the farm business.

East Riding Council’s planning committee will consider the application in October.
