Residents protest wind turbines

STAYNER – More than 300 residents took to the streets to protest the proposed Fairview Wind Farm near Stayner.

Residents started the demonstration with a rally at Clearview Nursuries and paraded to the Stayner Community Centre – site of the WPD public open house. Residents walked, drove vehicles and even tractors in an effort to show their objection to the turbines.

WPD Canada wants to build eight turbines on land just west of Stayner. WPD President Ian MacRae said the organization was on hand to answer questions and hopefully alleviate any concerns.

MacRae and consultants held court with the media at the community centre, offering a response to concerns raised by the Collingwood Regional Airport Board about the location of the turbines.

Simcoe Grey MPP Jim Wilson said thousands of residents have signed petitions in objection to the turbines.
