Campaigners optimistic over wind farm battle

Campaigners fighting plans to build five 100m tall turbines in Litlington say they are “optimistic of a positive outcome”.

Protesters formed the Stop Litlington Wind Farm Action Group after the plans came to light and are urging residents to write to South Cambs District Council to object to the proposal.

Chairman Phil Jones said: “I think we are optimistic for a positive outcome, the overwhelming feeling for everyone we have talked to is that it is just an inappropriate site for very little reward.

“It would create a big impact for very little benefit – it is just the wrong place plain and simple.”

If approved the turbines would flank the A505 along with a 60m anemometry mast, which would measure wind speed.

The group is not alone in its objection with Royston Town Council, Litlington Parish Council, Bassingbourn Parish Council, Steeple Morden Parish Council and Therfield Parish Council all against the plans.

Farmer Ralph Parker lodged the application to diversify his Highfield Farm and declined to comment when asked by the Crow.

At present it is not known when the plan will be discussed by councillors but Mr Jones believes it will go before them in September.
